Hello,

would it be possible in the new file format of PyFR to retain the structure in the “.pyfrm” with the “spt_{etype}p{pn}" and in the “.pyfrs” the "soln{etype}_p{pn}” or at least allow the user to choose which one to use. This would provide some backward compatibility that can be beneficial for long term users

No. A key advantage of the new format is that a single mesh can support multiple partitionings with solution files being partition independent. This is not possible to achieve with the old structure in any meaningful sense hence why we had to break compatibility.

Saying this v2.1 is a long term support release and so we suggest long term users stick with this if they have existing simulations.
