Can Ascent produce outputs that are PV readable?

I am really enjoying working with the Ascent plugin. Thanks for all the support so far.

I’ve been mainly producing images, but I also wanted to look at generating extracts. My objective is to serialise this data into a format that can be then converted into something that is readable in ParaView. The purpose of this is for side-by-side comparison with different codes.

Is that possible with the current plugin? Scanning through the source file briefly, I didn’t think that this is possible, but maybe I missed something? I also think this would be relatively easy to implement, but wanted to discuss it first.

It will likely require some minor changes to the Ascent plugin. Once you know what you want to do on the Ascent side getting it into PyFR (or rather accessible from PyFR’s Ascent plugin) usually isn’t too difficult.

Another option is to use PyFR’s writer (to just write the elements you want/need) along with a post-action. This can sometimes be more flexible and perform better (I/O can be async, as can the postaction).
